40.1 Printing Sky Charts
RedShift 3 lets you print high quality sky charts along with other information in the current sky view. RedShift prints the current view shown on your screen. In general, you can print each object as an icon, vector graphics or bitmap image, the same way as it is currently shown on screen. The only exception is the printing of stars - they are always printed as magnitude dependent icons, as in many star atlases.
Note that the best screen view is not necessarily the best for printing. Representing objects as bitmap images (e.g. comets, constellations etc.) takes longer to print and sometimes results in pixellation. RedShift 3 always prints black on white, so some images are inverted. In the case of planets and moons, the print resolution is higher than on screen, and colors are correct on color printer, so you can produce a better image.

To print your current sky view choose Print from the File menu. To preview what you will get on paper use Print Preview option in File menu. To configure printing options use the Print setup dialog (File, Print Setup...).

The Print Legend is always printed along with the sky chart. It contains information about the current time, location, direction of view, active grid and field of view. It uses the format of data currently present on panels. The legend also indicates how each of main objects is currently represented, and its icon where applicable.
40.2 Printing from reports, etc.
You can print the information from all the Events dialogs and from the Sky Diary.
Printing from these features is in a fixed format. To print, simply click the Print button in the relevant dialog.
 40.3 Printing the screen
If you would like to print the Sky window exactly as it appears on screen, you can do this with the help of most Paint packages. Set up the view that you wish to use, and choose Copy sky window from the Edit menu (or press CTRL+C). The contents of the sky window (without panels or other windows and dialogs) are copied to the clipboard. Switch to you Paint package (or any package that can accept and image, such as a word processor) and paste the image. Then print following the instructions from your chosen package.

TIP:
To get the best resolution from a screen print, you could set you computer screen resolution to the highest possible and re-start RedShift. Although the display will be slower, the sky window bitmap will have a higher resolution.

40.4 Printing Information documents
You can print the Dictionary, Photo Gallery, Record Breakers, Help manual and the contents of Astronomy Tours. Click the Print button in the Information window, and the currently displayed HTML page will print, using the current default printer.
